The Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (PIBIC) at UNIVAP is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Arian Ojeda Gonzalez, who oversees the program’s smooth operation. He is supported by two evaluation committees: an internal one, made up of UNIVAP faculty members, and an external one, composed of professors from other institutions. The advisors, typically CNPq research productivity grantees, are responsible for guiding PIBIC students, who submit short project proposals to compete for scholarships through annual calls.
PIBIC is aimed at developing scientific thinking and introducing undergraduate students to research. UNIVAP offers “Stricto Sensu” graduate programs, with four master’s and three doctoral degrees, all rated level four by CAPES. The institution has a research infrastructure of approximately 9,800 m², distributed across two buildings at the Research and Development Institute (IP&D). This includes laboratories, a library system, individual offices equipped with workstations and internet-connected computers, as well as a full administrative structure to support research activities.
UNIVAP also maintains Space Physics and Astronomy laboratories across Brazil and operates an Astronomical Observatory on the Urbanova Campus, which welcomes the public and school groups for visits. In addition, the university has various laboratories within its six faculties, receiving students from diverse academic backgrounds across the country.
Scientific initiation grantees will find a faculty highly experienced in mentoring dissertations and theses, including twelve CNPq productivity grantees. UNIVAP has participated in PIBIC since 2009 and hosts an annual scientific initiation event, INIC, which gathers over a thousand participants and publishes their work in the conference proceedings. The institution also publishes the UNIVAP Journal, a multidisciplinary scientific journal where scholarship recipients can submit their best research.
Moreover, UNIVAP operates a project incubator and a technology park, fostering links between research and industry, and promoting technological innovation.
In summary, UNIVAP offers an ideal environment for scientific initiation scholars, ensuring academic excellence and preparing students for graduate programs or careers in industry.

NOTICES
PIBIC students are selected based on criteria established in the PIBIC-Univap notice. The selection process is rigorous, and all documents must be submitted within the registration period at the Institute of Research and Development's office, following the instructions in the notice. All students interested must comply with the rules of the notice, even those already in the program, as the PIBIC renewal is annual.
Below are the PIBIC notices according to the activity period:
NOTICE PIBIC 01-2020
NOTICE PIBIC_2022 UNIVAP
NOTICE PIBIC_2023 UNIVAP
NOTICE PIBIC_2024 UNIVAP
NOTICE PIBIC_2024 UNIVAP - EXTENDED
SCHEDULE
Scholarship recipients must comply with the dates set by the coordination. Document submission is important for evaluating students' performance and the quality of the program. The activity schedule is organized as follows:
PIBIC Applications
All students must annually apply for PIBIC scholarships. The renewal process is not automatic. See the document submission date in the "Public Notices" section of PIBIC-Univap. All items in the public notice must be followed.
Report Submission
Reports must be submitted in printed form to secretaries Ms. Miriam Mosquim or Nanci, at the IP&D office. The report must strictly follow the template provided in the "Download Forms" section. The report submission dates may vary due to the academic calendar, but the period should be between the following months:
Partial Report: December/January*
Final Report: June/July*
Submission of Updated Summaries
This summary must be sent to pibic@univap.br, using the template provided in the "Download Forms" section. The supervisor must update the student's research project summary, which will be used to create the PIBIC-Univap summary booklet. These summaries will guide external evaluators during the oral presentation. This information will also be posted on the PIBIC-Univap page, under the "PIBIC Students" section.
Date: Updated Summary: May*
Oral Presentation of the Developed Project
All scholarship recipients are required to give an oral presentation of their research project. During this event, an external committee of professors from other institutions will evaluate the research projects. The presentation date may vary depending on the availability of the invited professors, and it can take place anytime between July* and August*, according to the academic calendar. All participants will receive a confirmation of the date via email.
The invited professors will also evaluate PIBIC-Univap based on the quality of the research projects.
Presentation of Work at the Scientific Initiation Meeting
Annually, Univap organizes the Scientific Initiation and Postgraduate Meeting. All students must present their research work at this meeting, as this academic space for scientific discussion provides an opportunity to interact with students from other institutions, exchange experiences, and advance their studies with new suggestions. This requirement is part of the PIBIC-Univap public notice; if not met, it must be justified in a letter from the supervisor.
Dates will be sent via email.
