The Astronomy and Space Physics Observatory at the University of Vale do Paraíba (Univap) is primarily dedicated to science outreach, aiming to spark curiosity about the exact sciences. With a large area for permanent and temporary exhibitions, the observatory promotes educational, extension, and research activities.
Open to the entire community of the Vale do Paraíba region and beyond, the observatory hosts free and regular sky observation events, always accompanied by a lecture on an astronomical topic. Special events, such as meteor showers, eclipses, and comet sightings, are celebrated with dedicated observation sessions and explanatory activities. The observatory also regularly offers extension courses to the general public and training programs for primary and secondary school teachers.
The Observatory was inaugurated on October 14, 2011. Its team is composed of researchers and students from Univap’s Graduate Program in Physics and Astronomy, with extensive experience in research, outreach, and science communication.
